VOLITION Picked Up by Showtime for US Streaming

Cerebral sci-fi mind-bender, VOLITION, has been picked up by Showtime for US streaming, beginning March 3, 2021. This marks another milestone in the indie gem’s release. After winning Best Feature at the Philip K. Dick Film Festival, VOLITION went on to show at places like FrightFest London and also premiered on VOD in July 2020, earning impressive reviews and an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Variety calls the film, “Succinctly propulsive,” and The Hollywood Reporter deems it “An ingeniously constructed puzzler” while the New York Times raves it as a “Clever puzzle… Cousin to ‘Memento’ and ‘Timecrimes.’”

VOLITION is the debut feature directed by award-winning Tony Dean Smith, based on a screenplay written by Tony Dean Smith and Ryan W. Smith. Check out our interview with the makers of VOLITION to get a look behind the scenes.

The film is a gritty sci-fi thriller about a man, afflicted with clairvoyance, who tries to change his fate when a series of events leads to a vision of his own murder. The film stars Adrian Glynn McMorran (who chatted with Recursor about the film a while back) and Magda Apanowicz, along with Snowpiercer’s Aleks Paunovic, John Cassini, Frank Cassini and Bill Marchant. Smith Brothers and Paly Productions have released the film through Giant Pictures.

“We couldn’t be happier having Showtime as a home for VOLITION. Their daring and powerful programming has long been an inspiration for us,” says Tony Dean Smith, the film’s director, co-writer and co-producer. “It’s a dream come true to be streaming to the Showtime audience. We look forward to engaging with them online,” says Ryan W. Smith, the film’s co-writer and co-producer.
