5 Action Movies Worth the Watch on Netflix June 2020
As much as we’d love to watch nothing but science fiction, there are only so many movies Netflix can stream at any given time. So when there’s no more sci fi, we turn to our favorite adjacent genre: Action! We’ve dug deep into the current Netflix library and pulled together a list of quality titles that might have fallen below your viewing radar. We left out obvious hits which we assume our audience has seen: no comic book movies, franchises or major theatrical releases. These action movies on Netflix.

Finding Sci-Fi Wonder: Q&A with Filmmaker Colin Levy
Science fiction that moves us must have some element of imaginative wonder to it, an awe-inducing ride that draws the audience in and captivates us. That element is easy to spot in SKYWATCH, a sci-fi short film with a burst of celebrity star power and solid storytelling to balance out the appealing VFX. The film’s creator, Colin Levy, spent years in the making of his film, which serves as a proof of concept for an intriguing story we’d love to see in longer form. Levy chatted with Recursor recently about the.

The Making of EXILE: Q&A with Mark Freiburger
Androids and humans: can they ever mix? It’s a classic science fiction question for storytellers. And it’s a question that director/writer Mark Freiburger addresses in his indie sci-fi short film EXILE, featuring Jon Huertas. You might recognize Freiburger’s name — he won the 2013 “Doritos Crash the Super Bowl” contest with his “Daddy Fashionista” ad, made for $300. Recursor caught up with Freiburger to learn more about his love for science fiction and the making of his short film. RECURSOR: What drew you to filmmaking? FREIBURGER: I was always.

Zero Budget Sci-Fi: Q&A with Vivien Rosewood
An indie sci-fi web series paid for by a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, RED VELVET REVOLUTION is a dystopian sci-fi story about an organization that directs the lives of its users, much like producers and directors shape the stories of shows like THE BACHELOR and BIG BROTHER. Unlike those shows, though, the people in RED VELVET REVOLUTION don’t know they’re in a show. They mistakenly believe they are in charge of their own lives. But not everyone is happy with this brave new world. Recursor spoke with the maker of RED VELVET REVOLUTION, filmmaker and videographer Vivien.

Interview with Director Cidney Hue
Creating grounded science fiction can be a labor of love and an ode to empowerment—something sci-fi director Cidney Hue epitomizes with her work, both on and off the set. Hue’s most recent award-winning film, OVUM, is a Black Mirror style short on the convergence of reproductive rights and VR technology. Her previous award-winning short, ODESSA, recounts the journey of an astronaut’s last night on Earth. Her web series, CYBORG NATION, profiles scientists at the forefront of prosthetics, robotics, and brain-computer interfaces. Hue spoke with Recursor recently about her background in sci-fi, teaching, and supporting.

Loscon 46: A Sci-Fi Fan Fest
Recursor.TV attended this year’s Loscon 46, which ran from November 29 to December 1, 2019. Billed as Los Angeles’ oldest running science fiction convention, Loscon continues to find ways to connect with genre fans. Organizers this year reported that attendance for the event was up from last year, despite inclement weather wreaking havoc on attendees’ travel schedules. The weekend event featured a dealers room (pictured) and a crowded schedule of panelists. This year’s theme was the nexus of science fiction and fantasy, which paved the way for some interesting.

Going Old-School with the Maker of Infinitus
An operation to harness energy from the sun has resulted in disaster. With the light from the sun now gone, humanity lives deep underground, attempting to reverse the damage before the world freezes completely. That’s the premise of the indie sci-fi short film INFINITUS, currently being made in Wisconsin by director Cameron Currin. With a desire to fuse the style of classics such as 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY with modern films such as SUNSHINE and INTERSTELLAR, Currin and his crew are going old-school, using practical FX like miniature scale models.

Study Sci-Fi Filmmaking with Director Hasraf Dulull
We talk about indie filmmaking a lot here at RECURSOR because we know sci-fi storytellers and directors often create their own films as labors of love and passion. It’s not often, though, that we get to tell you about a course in science fiction filmmaking. So we’re excited to tell you about the new course from director HaZ Dulull (THE BEYOND, 2036: ORIGIN UNKNOWN) to help people go from just dreaming about making sci-fi to actually doing it. We picked his brain to find out more about the classes.
